    This is an above average teen slasher that tips its hat to some other popular franchises like Saw and Escape Room, using an extreme haunted house as the setting. Grisly practical effects, a gaggle of memorable villains, and characters displaying the most plot-induced stupidity I've seen in recent memory. Worth a watch!

    I've seen so many found footage films at this point that the format doesn't really work on me anymore. This is probably the most important one, but the Micah character is a very annoying and their liberal use of him while the tension is building makes this a slog at times.

    In August 2019 Netflix cancelled The OA after two seasons, leaving it on a cliffhanger. Co-creator Brit Marling said she and Zal Batmanglij were deeply sad not to be able to finish the story. Fans launched #SaveTheOA and #TheOAisReal campaigns and a petition, posted videos performing the show's Movements, and one fan went on a hunger strike outside Netflix's Los Angeles offices.

    I really hope it’s not lost on Gillian Anderson (and I don’t think it is) that starring in a film about someone’s queer awakening is such a full circle moment for the entire generation of less than straight and questioning kids she helped usher in to that knowledge. Hannah Einbinder is all of us.

    Loved how it looked, loved the Alex G music, and loved the needle drop. If you're looking for horror, you will be disappointed. It's very a disjointed, dreamlike surrealist dark comedy, and I was lost in the haze. Luckily I was watching it with a queer friend who could explain the message that Jane Schoenbrun was trying to convey during the credits. I had the same problem with I Saw The T.V. Glow and I loved that one a lot more after a Reddit deep dive and a rewatch. I probably need a second viewing now that I understand the subtext.

    Beautiful animation, amazing soundtrack. Felt like you were meant to watch this as if you were inside a dream with the characters, which required you to loosen your ideas of plot and structure and just go along for the ride.  The only downside to me was the depiction of certain characters that made it feel very dated to its time.

    Definitely a Sam Raimi movie. I had to turn my head away until a scene was over because it was grossing me out, which doesn't happen to me that often. When it does happen, it's usually Sam Raimi's fault. The movie isn't particularly scary. It relies on jump scares a little too much, like most horror movies in 2009. It's just kind of loud and gross but there were enough laughs to keep it entertaining.

In 2007, The Sci-Fi Channel premiered "Ghost Adventures," a raw documentary in which 3 men go to Virginia City, NV and Goldfield, NV on a ghost hunting expedition. Virginia City is rife with macabre lore and reputed to be one of the most haunted cities in America. Ghost Adventures has won a Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary that was given by the New York International Film & Video Festival.

  • The independent documentary was shot around 2004 but not premiered until 2007 on the Sci Fi Channel. It led to the Ghost Adventures TV series, which started in 2008.

    If you love watching jumpy dweebs with 90's haircuts get scared by something almost happening then this is the indie ghost hunting documentary for you. It's got every kind of nothing. Disturbed dust, shadows created by the film crew's own lights, knocking, creaking, flying brick, old lady who keeps batteries in a glory hole, glowing animal eyes... You name it. This documentary has nothing for everyone.

    I've seen this about a dozen times, starting in the early 90's, and every time I watch it I think that at some point I'm going to hear Love Is A Battlefield by Pat Benatar, but the actual song in the movie is Invincible by Pat Benatar. It's my own little Mandela effect. It's so strong that I'm kind of convinced that I'm not alone; I'm just the only one reporting it.

    This is a fun movie, very indie — a pretty unique story. The sound is AWFUL. I watch most stuff with headphones on, so I noticed every imperfection, and it felt like there was at least one in every single scene. In some scenes, it was so bad that it was distracting.

    Curry Barker, a 26-year-old YouTube sketch comedian from That's a Bad Idea, shot Obsession in Los Angeles in October 2024 for about $750,000. After its TIFF premiere, Focus Features bought it for a reported $14–15 million, the highest price ever paid for a genre film at the festival. Released in May 2026, it went on to earn hundreds of millions worldwide, and AFP reported it was on track to become one of the most profitable films ever made.

  • Barker pitched Obsession when producer James Harris approached him about expanding a different project into a feature; the idea was partly inspired by The Simpsons episode "Treehouse of Horror II".

  • Before opening, Barker bet his agent and manager that if the film made more than $20 million they would all get matching tattoos.

  • Focus sold replica One Wish Willows as merchandise; they sold out within hours, and the in-world commercial drew more than 4.4 million YouTube views.

    Went into this thinking it was gonna have teen horror vibes but hoo boy, this one earned its R rating. The violence was quick and jarring. A loud theatrical experience. Also 10/10 skittering. Upsetting in every way. But that’s a good thing.
