Dennis Miller reportedly didn't want to be in the film and asked for $1 million as a way of getting out of it. Producer Joel Silver paid it anyway, reportedly by taking about $750,000 from the special-effects budget of a vampire movie.
Casting Dennis Miller's million-dollar 'no' Miller, a stand-up and talk-show host rather than an actor, reportedly didn't want to do the film. He asked for $1 million so the studio would refuse. Universal balked, but Joel Silver is reported to have moved about $750,000 out of the effects budget to pay him. Sources say the fee took a large share of a small budget.
Casting The studio's casting overrode the filmmakers Katz and Adler had picked their own leads, but the studio and Silver replaced them with Miller, Erika Eleniak (known from Baywatch) and Angie Everhart. Everhart was reportedly recommended through Stallone, and Silver thought supermodels would draw audiences. Everhart later said the film has become a cult favourite.
Feud Miller vs. the set Miller improvised most of his lines and often asked to be shot out early, so his coverage was filmed first. The script supervisor stood in for him in the other actors' shots, which annoyed the cast and created continuity problems. Corey Feldman says Miller was rude and clashed with him, and that he drove off in a transportation van. Wikipedia describes a troubled shoot with limited night shooting and Miller's refusal to show up on set.
Production A student script revived to keep Zemeckis The story came from an old Gale and Zemeckis script. Universal reportedly bought it to keep Zemeckis from joining DreamWorks, and Katz and Adler had to rework it. It was reportedly chosen over other proposed Crypt-branded scripts, including Peter Jackson's The Frighteners and Quentin Tarantino's From Dusk till Dawn. The producers dropped their planned film Dead Easy to make it.
The story began as an exploitation-film script that Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis wrote after leaving USC in the 1970s. They pitched it to John Milius, but it went unproduced and their first film was 1941.
Universal reportedly bought the old script partly to keep Zemeckis from moving to the newly formed DreamWorks. A.L. Katz and Gilbert Adler were told to polish it, and Katz has said it was outdated and didn't suit the Crypt brand.
Katz and Adler had been planning a different second Crypt movie, a psychological horror film called Dead Easy. They were scouting New Orleans when Universal told them to switch to Bordello of Blood.
The filmmakers' own casting picks were reportedly Daniel Baldwin as Rafe, Bridgette Wilson as Katherine and Robin Givens as Lilith. The studio and producer Joel Silver overruled them. Silver reportedly believed supermodels were 'the next big thing'.
Angie Everhart was reportedly pushed for the role of Lilith by her then-boyfriend Sylvester Stallone. Before this she had almost no acting experience beyond a tiny part in Last Action Hero.
Miller reportedly improvised much of his dialogue, often with one-liners that hadn't made his stand-up act. Because he often got his coverage shot first and left, the script supervisor read his lines for the other actors, and the film has continuity problems as a result.
Drama Because of Miller's schedule around his HBO show Dennis Miller Live, the non-union Vancouver crew reportedly had to work weekends. Silver is reported to have shot in Vancouver because he had alienated American craft unions, although the story is set in the American South.
Drama Corey Feldman has said Miller was rude to the cast and crew and once took a van from the transportation department and left the set. Feldman also says the two had a heated confrontation. These are Feldman's accounts, and other reports of a physical altercation are less certain.
The soundtrack has Anthrax performing the theme song, Sweet's 'Ballroom Blitz', and a Redd Kross cover of Kiss's 'Deuce'.
A crypt in the cemetery is marked 'Gaines', a nod to William Gaines, who published the original EC Comics. The film was meant to be the second of a trilogy of Crypt films, but Universal scrapped the third after this one flopped.

Not one redeeming frame. It felt like it was made for an audience who could only see it if they piled up on top of eachother inside of a trench coat.
